Derby Day is considered one of the best days of racing on the calendar anywhere through Australia, and although the attention is focused on Flemington, there was plenty to sing about at Traralgon on Saturday with Zousinger finally cracking the maiden in a tight finish over 1100m.
Zousinger has been somewhat of an enigma for connections with plenty of bad luck in races through her career to date. It was pleasing for our owners to enjoy the win on a big day of racing.
Trainer, Shane Nichols was also pleased with the win and
"At last we got that win," Nichols said.
"She looked beaten on the corner. Will said she just didn't handle that bottom bend but she had to be pretty tough late to really find the line. It really didn't look like she was going to be the winner until the last ten or 20 metres.
"It's nice to just tick that box. We've been racing fairly consistently. She may now step out to the 1200m and have one or two more runs before she heads for a break."
Zousinger is by Zousain and out of Soul Mama, herself a full sister to Solar Charged which makes this filly a three-quarter to Champion Filly Sunlight.
TBB Racing head a syndicate that invested in this filly with an idea to have some fun on the track and make the most of her residual value when she eventually retires.
